Description

A peaceful Monk or Lama seated in a Buddhist crossed legged posture on a lotus throne (Padmasana) with both hands in a meditation gesture of Dhyana Mudra. His patched garments and bonnet are incised in a skilful manner typical of the Tsang atelier. Inlayed silver throughout mostly between arms and chest. Incised and repouse by a master. Base with incised 8 pedal lotus with some debris inside cast.

Provenance: Acquired from the Richard Dick Bass estate in Dallas. He was famous for being the first man to conquer the Seven Summits culminating with Mount Everest after two failed attempts.
