Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887).

Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse was a French artist who lived from 1824-1887. This finely detailed bust of Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) is a model by Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. For a long period, Albert Carrier-Belleuse carved beautiful busts of highly admired political and scientific figures, these being very popular during the Romantic era through the end of the nineteenth century. Rembrandt is intricately detailed with his flowing locks over the twists and flops of his intricate garb. Signed on the back of the bust.

Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, best known by his surname, Carrier-Belleuse, was both a sculptor and a painter that studied under the tutorship of David d’Angers. He went on to achieve fame both as an artist in his own right and for being the teacher of the world renowned Auguste Rodin. Rodin worked as an assistant in the studio of Carrier-Belleuse between 1864 and 1870. His first public showing was in the Paris Salon of 1851. He was regarded as one of the most prolific French sculptors of his day.
