Authenticated and dated by Ralf Kotalla Laboratories in Germany Report # 05PX240220 included with acquisition.

Ca. 618 – 907 AD Tang Dynasty Terracotta Horse figure with saddle and turned head. An elegant hollow molded pottery horse modeled in a standing pose with a gracefully arched neck and turned head with pricked ears and mouth agape. The musculature is rendered in great detail with traces of original polychrome paint throughout. Horses were an important status symbol during the tang “Golden Age” . They were the rewards of victorious military campaigns which lead to material stability and wealth. The Tang Emperors often described their favorite horses in detail commenting on their coloration, conformation and temperament.
