Emile Albert Gruppe (American, 1896-1978) “Birches”
Landscape with farm on river bank and birches. Probably Vermont in fall. A very strong impressionist style covering may aspects such as sky, mountains, landscape, farm, a riverbank and birch trees in the foreground. A fantastic Gruppe painting with his Classic birches in A+ condition, circa 1950 midcentury!

Emile A. Gruppe was a painter-teacher who was born in 1896, the son of renowned painter Charles P. Gruppe (1860-1940). He lived throughout his professional painting career in Gloucester, MA and wintered in Jeffersonille, VT and Sarasota, FL. Gruppe studied at the National Academy (NYC), at the Grande Chaumiere, Paris; and with John F. Carlson, Richard Miller, George Bridgman, Charles Chapman and Charles Hawthorne (in Provincetown) and by 1930 he was known for his fluid, Lucid post-impressionist scenes of the American landscape and of Gloucester boating views.
