Emile Albert gruppe (Am. 1896-1978) “Winter Cambridge” Vermont oil on canvas snow painting. With original frame and paper label on verso of a exhibit at Bethal Inn Gloucester 1946 with Title, Artist Name, Artist’s address and price. A beautiful piece of Cape Ann history found in a Vermont attic after 35 years when children were going through a lady’s estate.

Condition: Pristine with no inpaint or issues. Recently cleaned.

Emile A. Gruppe was a painter-teacher who was born in 1896, the son of renowned painter Charles P. Gruppe (1860-1940). He lived throughout his professional painting career in Gloucester, MA and wintered in Jeffersonille, VT and Sarasota, FL. Gruppe studied at the National Academy (NYC), at the Grande Chaumiere, Paris; and with John F. Carlson, Richard Miller, George Bridgman, Charles Chapman and Charles Hawthorne (in Provincetown) and by 1930 he was known for his fluid, Lucid post-impressionist scenes of the American landscape and of Gloucester boating views.
