ANTOINE LOUIS BARYE (FRENCH 1795-1875)
Lion Qui Marche; The Walking Lion is an iconic Barye bronze depicting the fierce and elegant Lion Barye studied in the Paris zoo in the early nineteenth century and one of a pair with the Tigre Qui Marche which I am also offering on this platform. A discount will be offered if you purchase the pair. Pairs are difficult to come by and collectors often scramble to complete them. There is a smaller 10 inch version of this bronze made later into the 20th century due to the demand of these original larger 19th century versions. This Barye also has the iconic brown patina seen in different lights with greens in other lighting conditions. These larger sculptures come up one to ten to the smaller 10 inch versions meaning this one wont last long.
