Description

A very serene and calming weathered sandstone Buddha head from Thailand, circa 16th century or earlier. Traces of polychrome and golf pigments throughout. Gilding around nose looks like tears eminatinting from Buddha’s tear ducts.. I love the feeling this Buddha sculpture figure evokes! Though weathered; his bun and long earlobes are still present and the energy is all there!

Provenance: From a Canadian auction selling the estate of a French gentleman who amassed a large collection of Gandhara, Buddhas and Khmer items throughout his life.
