Description

Myron Nutting (1890-1972 Los Angeles, CA).

Nude woman outdoors. Painted 1933 Art Deco Nouveau in the style or Arthur B Davies.

Signed and dated lower left: Nutting ’33, oil on board, 30” H x 24” W.

Frame, 32.25″ W X 38″ H.

Provenance: Private Collection, Covina, CA.

Myron Chester Nutting.

Muralist, painter, Myron Nutting was born in Panaca, Nevada on Oct. 18, 1890. He studied at the Boston Museum Fine Arts School, Art Students League in New York City and in Paris at Académie Julian under André Lhote and the University of Paris under Maurice Denis.

He was an instructor at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee and after moving to Los Angeles in the 1930s at the Chouinard Art School.

In the 1940s he wrote reviews for Script magazine. During the 1950s he lived in Dallas, TX and by the 1960s had returned to Los Angeles where he remained until his death on April 3, 1972.

He was a member of the Wisconsin Society of Painters & Sculptors; California WaterColor Society; San Antonio Art League; Tex.

Condition.

Paint looks fresh and strong. Minor scattered age cracks in frame. A small crack in the board in the lower right corner. Blacklight: No evidence of restoration under blacklight.
