Description

Wonderful large and heavy 1930s Ikora glass lidded vases or bowls by designer Karl Wiedmann (1905 – 1992) for WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) in Germany. Ikora glass was discovered when the factory tried to repair a damaged art glass piece by covering it in clear glass. The effect was very attractive and unexpected, and gave rise to many experiments in combining colors and surface treatments. Ikora was made from circa 1930s-early 1950s.

Measures: Height 7 inches Diameter 7 inches.

These bowls feature internal designs in deep maroon, white, yellow, red, black, white and green with scatterings of bubbles completing the abstract design. The bases are polished flat on the 1/2″+ thick clear glass foot.

I really like the way the thick drips of color run down onto the clear foot giving the pieces an almost organic feel. A few light flea bites to the interior lid of one, but nothing noticeable and no other damage. These art glass pieces are quite striking with their deep colors and complex design. Each piece was completely handmade and decorated making each one a unique piece of art.
