Description
This baluster vase (22.5 tall) is decorated with classic iron red Foo dogs (lions). One big Foo dog defines the front of the vase surrounded by 4 small ones. On the opposite/back side are rows of Chinese calligraphic information dating its production and indicating the maker as well. ( Some opinion was given that this piece was produced during the reign of Tongzhi.) The vase has reticulated “butterfly wing” ears or stylized handles; the flared rim is painted brown. It has 9 Inch diameter at its widest.
The vase is in very good to excellent condition with wear commensurate of age and use.
The Tongzhi Emperor (27 April 1856 – 12 January 1875), born Zaichun of the Aisin Gioro clan, was the tenth emperor of the Manchu-led Qing dynasty, and the eighth Qing emperor to rule over China proper.
